The house quietly bridges memory and modern life, honoring the past while embracing the present.
A family with a profound appreciation for wood carving, antiques, and artistic pieces sought our services for the renovation of a single-story house located in East Java, Indonesia. Guided by their nostalgia for bygone eras, this sentiment has become the foundational principle driving the design of the newly renovated mansion, which faithfully preserves the key materials and products left by their ancestors.
Facing west, the elongated terrace with its wooden ceiling is illuminated by the afternoon sun. It serves not only as a relaxation space but also as a welcoming area for guests, positioned on both the left and right sides of the entrance. The design preserves existing features such as the marble columns and window grid.
A new space, known as the glass room, has emerged between the main house and the service building in response to the need for a versatile area that is neither entirely public nor entirely private. This multipurpose space can accommodate sudden office meetings, discussions, or even the reception of specific guests without disrupting the privacy of the occupants in the main house.
The bedroom, their most private space, narrates tales of time through its ceiling ornamentation, the selection of wood, and the array of products juxtaposed against the newly designed space and corridor. This deliberate interplay of old and new serves to portray the passage of time.
Again, the house quietly bridges memory and modern life, honoring the past while embracing the present.
