Hello,
We’re Zefanya Vajrakumaro and Jesica Tan, the founders of ETAN Studio. Some people know us as Jepen and Jecil.
ETAN Studio was born on January 8, 2022, in a small and warm space in Surabaya, East Java. Inspired by local wisdom, we chose the name ETAN, which means “East” in Javanese.
Why East?
East is where the sun rises—a symbol of hope. Hope to grow better than we were yesterday. Hope to take part in shaping the present and the future through spaces that are meaningful, comfortable, and functional.
Our purpose?
To make a positive impact and become a source of inspiration.
We aim to leave every space better than how we first found it.
What do we do?
We currently focus on architectural design—ranging from private homes and public spaces to commercial buildings—as well as interior and product design that complement and enrich each space.
Lastly,
We believe every space holds its own story.
Like the sun that rises in the east each morning, we hope every piece of our work brings light and a sense of hope.

Zefanya Vajrakumaro T. adalah salah satu pendiri sekaligus Kepala Arsitek di ETAN Studio. Teman-teman dan rekan kerjanya biasa memanggilnya Jepen. Dengan latar belakang arsitektur dan kecintaan pada narasi kontekstual, ia mendekati setiap proyek dengan keseimbangan antara teknis dan kepekaan rasa. Karyanya berangkat dari keyakinan bahwa arsitektur tidak hanya berfokus pada fungsi, tetapi juga memiliki resonansi—membentuk tempat yang bermakna, bertahan lama, dan responsif terhadap lingkungannya.
Ia menemukan inspirasi dari bagaimana cahaya bergerak di atas sebuah permukaan serta bagaimana bangunan menua dengan anggun seiring waktu. Zefanya menemukan makna dalam bangunan yang berbicara pada konteks waktu dan tempatnya. Sebagai penggemar jalan pagi, ia sering mencermati bagaimana cahaya menyentuh bangunan dan proses kota mulai hidup—mengingatkannya bahwa arsitektur, pada akhirnya, adalah sesuatu untuk dialami dan dirasakan.

Zefanya Vajrakumaro T. is the co-founder and Principal Architect of ETAN Studio. Friends and colleagues also call him Jepen. With a background in architecture and a love for contextual storytelling, he approaches each project with a balance of technical precision and poetic sensibility. His work is grounded in the idea that architecture should not only serve, but also resonate—shaping places that are meaningful, enduring, and responsive to their surroundings.
He draws inspiration from the way light moves across surfaces and how buildings age with dignity over time. Zefanya finds meaning in buildings that speak to their time and place. A fan of early morning walks, he often takes note of how light touches structures and how cities awaken—reminding him that architecture is, above all, lived and felt.

Principal Architect
Jesica Tan adalah salah satu pendiri sekaligus Kepala Desain Interior di ETAN Studio. Teman-teman dan rekan kerjanya biasa memanggilnya Jecil. Berbekal latar belakang di bidang desain produk, ia membawa sudut pandang multidisipliner ke dalam desain interior, menggabungkan kepekaan material dengan kejernihan spasial. Dengan sensitivitas yang mendalam terhadap bagaimana orang merasakan sebuah ruang, pendekatan Jesica berpusat pada manusia—secara halus mengangkat kehidupan sehari-hari melalui desain yang intuitif dan nyaman.
Tertarik akan momen-momen sederhana dalam keseharian, Jesica menemukan inspirasi dalam rutinitas harian dan bagaimana pilihan kecil dan sederhana dalam sebuah desain dapat membawa kenyamanan dan kejelasan. Salah satu tempat favoritnya adalah kafe kecil di sudut kota—tempat di mana waktu seolah melambat—mengingatkannya bahwa desain yang baik sering kali berawal dari proses mengamati dengan saksama.
JESICA TAN
Kepala Desain Interior
Jesica Tan is the co-founder and Interior Design Director at ETAN Studio. Friends and colleagues often call her Jecil. Trained in product design, she brings a multidisciplinary perspective to interiors, combining tactile sensibility with spatial clarity. With a deep sensitivity to how people experience space, Jesica’s approach is thoughtful and human-centered—quietly elevating daily life through design that feels both intuitive and comforting.
Drawn to the quiet power of everyday moments, Jesica finds inspiration in people’s routines and how small design choices can spark comfort and clarity. One of her favorite places is a quiet corner café where time seems to slow down—reminding her that good design often starts with simply observing.
